Before this class, World Religions was not a term I was necessarily familiar with. It seems like a group of scholars created this term as a way to organize information about different religions to efficiently study it. As I listen to this podcast the issue as a whole continues to show its very apparent problems as a model. When they bring up the Sikhs and how they desire to be on the list, that was interesting to me. The idea that simply having your religion on a list will help bring attention to it is a strange one. I guess the main thing that continues to be unfortunate in my eyes is how cut off people of a certain religion will be to the religions of others. I have been around Christianity most of my life. Obviously there are many different ways to live out the Christian experience. Nonetheless, for a religion that is supposed to be very accepting of all people regardless of their background, it is too common to see the opposite of that. It seems to be represented similarly in this World Religions model.
